Meet the Bears Night

West Oso High School varsity boys and girls basketball teams will host their 1st Annual Meet the Bears Night. The event will be on Thursday, November 21 at 6:30 p.m. in the main gym. Come out and meet our 2019–2020 Runnin Bears and Lady Bears teams.

Refreshments, door prizes, and basketball competitive activities will all take place. The highlight event will be a small mini basketball game. You won’t believe who the opponents will be!

Parent Academy Session

On Wednesday, November 20 there will be a community informational meeting on Grief & Loss: Tips for the Holidays. It will take place in the WOJH lecture hall from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. We will serve refreshments. Everyone is welcome! Please spread the word. If you would like to attend, please let us know by filling out the WOISD Grief & Loss Interest Form.

Science Fair Night

Get ready to learn, be amazed, and explore! West Oso Junior High presents science fair night on Friday, November 15 at 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. in the cafeteria. All ages are welcome. Come get your science board ready and participate in STEM activities!

Novel Night

Please join us at West Oso Elementary School for novel night on Thursday, November 14 from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. There will be ice cream and readings of four children's classics. Make sure to reserve your spot by Monday, November 11. Call (361) 806.5930 for questions and information.

Gifted and Talented Testing

Gifted and talented testing for West Oso ISD students in 2019–2020 will consist of one testing cycle for grades K through 12. We allow all students to test once per scholastic year September 1, 2019, through August 31, 2020. Below you will find the details and instructions for the grades K through 12 gifted and talented testing administration.

Important Dates and Deadlines

  • Application Window Opens: November 4, 2019
  • Application Window Closes: December 13, 2019
  • Testing Dates: January 7–31, 2020

Please pick up G/T referral forms for the WOISD Gifted and Talented program at any of our campuses or online.

Student referrals for the gifted and talented program can be made by administrators, teachers, counselors, or parents in writing and given to the campus counselor. We will consider all students referred for assessment and evaluation by district personnel trained in the practice of gifted and talented education. Assessment and evaluation of referred students include data from multiple sources, both qualitative and quantitative.

November 4, 2019, through December 13, 2019, is the official referral period for the 2019–20 school year.

The campus counselor must receive referrals by the end of the school day on December 13, 2019, in order to be considered for screening during January 7 through 31, 2020.

Lady Bears Basketball

Come support the Lady Bears at the AT&T Center as they face Corpus Christi rival, Tuloso-Midway on Wednesday, November 27. Then attend the Spurs game as they take on the Minnesota Timberwolves. There are a limited amount of game tickets, so be sure to purchase your tickets before they are gone! Prices range from $22–$56 and monies are due by Friday, November 1. Running Bears Basketball

Cheer on the Bears in the AT&T Center as they face Corpus Christi rival, Tuloso-Midway on Friday, November 29. Then stay for the Spurs game as they take on the Los Angeles Clippers.

Tickets are $55 and can be purchased from the WOHS front office or any WOHS boys basketball player. The fan bus will depart from WOHS parking lot at 9:00 a.m. and tipoff is at 11:30 a.m. For questions, contact Carlos Lerma by email or at (361) 806.5960.
