Activities
Extracurricular and co-curricular activities provide opportunities for exploration and growth in the visual, theatrical, and musical arts as well as offer students competitive and leadership experiences. Find something you love, and join in on the fun!
In art, you’ll tap into your creativity and learn new artistic skills to produce a variety of drawings, paintings, and mix-media artwork.
We proudly display these incredible works of art produced by our students throughout the entire school, which never ceases to amaze visitors, parents, administration, student peers, teachers, and staff.

The goal of the AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) program is to prepare students in the academic middle for four-year college eligibility. Our program targets students who are capable of completing a college-prep curriculum but who may be falling short of their potential.
The three main components of the program include academic instruction, tutorial support, and motivational activities. AVID students must enroll in at least one pre-AP course and attend one AVID class (academic elective) during the school day.
WOJH utilizes AVID teaching strategies, curriculum, and training across all subjects. Learn more about AVID:

Did you know that students who participate in music education have better language and reading skills, higher mathematics and standardized testing scores, and a better attendance rate? Learning to play a musical instrument and performing in a band is just plain smart!
The mission of the West Oso Mighty Bear Battalion Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps is to motivate young people to be better citizens. We do this by creating a fun, disciplined learning environment to assist students in the basic foundations of leadership. Our vision is to provide a quality citizenship, character, and leadership development program, while fostering partnerships with communities and educational institutions. The junior high robotics team was established under the direction of Gregorio Garza. Since the 2018–2019 school year, our team has competed against other schools through the First Lego League and has placed with high honors every year. We welcome sixth, seventh, and eighth graders who are interested in being part of our two 10-member teams.

William Shakespeare said it best: “All the world’s a stage,” and when you participate in theater, you can transform yourself into anyone you wish. On the stage, you can be who you want to be and dream without limitations.
As director of WOJH theatre, I have the privilege of seeing my students perform to the best of their ability every single day.
