What is AVID?
AVID is a new program offered to 6th, 7th & 8th graders in West Oso ISD. The goal of the AVID program is to prepare students in the academic middle for four-year college eligibility. This program targets students who are capable of completing a college-prep curriculum, but who may be falling short of their potential. The three main components of the program are academic instruction, tutorial support, and motivational activities. AVID students are enrolled in at least one Pre-AP course and attend an academic elective AVID class taught within the school day by a trained AVID teacher. AVID’s teaching strategies, curriculum, and trainings are used not only in the AVID elective class, but by are also used subject-area teachers school-wide.
